Lighthouse Lane, an arty gift shop, is one of Giddy Sprite’s most recent stockists, and is located in the picturesque village of Haworth, West Yorkshire, UK.   Lighthouse Lane specialises in UK designed products and opened in May 2015.

The owner, Katie Shelmerdine says

I’ve always enjoyed painting and drawing, and over the last few years I’ve had some success selling prints, cards and original artwork online, and through local craft fairs while working full-time in a bank.  I then went on Maternity Leave in April 2014 and had my little boy which inspired me to start designing a range of fabrics and artwork for children (which I branded as Lighthouse Lane).  I’d always had the dream to run my own business and I knew that I didn’t want to return to the sensible job.  Towards the end of my Maternity Leave, a shop became vacant in my village – I filled it with my own work, and beautiful, original and fun work from other UK designers – and I haven’t looked back.

The customers at Lighthouse Lane tend towards young families and people between the ages of 20 and 50.  Because the shop is located in a very touristy village, not only do they attract locals, but also the many visitors who flock to the area during holiday seasons.

Haworth is famous for being the home of the Bronte sisters, and the wonderful novels of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were written here.  The shop itself is situated in a quaint cobbled street, so quintessential of Olde England – but for more modern times, the street was once part of the route for the Tour de France.

One of the things that Katie enjoys most about her business is talking to her customers, and hearing the many compliments made about her lovely shop.  She is passionate about supporting small businesses and independent artists, and this fits well with Giddy Sprite, because we are also passionate about supporting independent businesses and UK made products.  Our villages and towns are so unique and filled with such a wealth of boutiques and gift shops run by devoted business-owners who really care about their customers.

Lighthouse Lane and their customers love Giddy Sprite for the bright colours, and the quirky, friendly characters. ‘The colours really ‘pop'”, Katie says.  “I think the customers really love the unique and strong designs.  I have the Pusskin clock in the window and so many people are always stopping to read out the words!”

Giddy Sprite designs are certainly unique and eye-catching, and we are always delighted when new stockists come to us because they have been looking for something completely different.  We love the look of Lighthouse Lane, and wish Katie and her team many happy years of trading in such a beautiful part of the world.

If you are visiting the area, do drop in to Katie’s shop, you will be assured a sun-shiny greeting and a joyous shopping experience.
